Drogheda and District chamber president Patricia Rooney Front left launches a campaign by the chamber to lower the vat rate from 21.5% to 15% pictures with retailers from the Drogheda Area with the streets that would normally be busy with trade now quiet.

    I believe that the increase in VAT by the Irish Government coupled with the decrease in VAT by the UK Government will make shopping north of the border even more appealing.
    The higher VAT rate applies to white goods, luxury goods and so many of our everyday requirements including cleaning products, adult clothing etc. Increasing the VAT on these items is putting further pressure on the consumers who are already reluctant to part with money at this time.
    Increasing the VAT is further accelerating the problems we are currently experiencing and for those reasons I support the “Drop the VAT” compaign.
    Well done Drogheda Chamber for taking the initiative!
